In South Dakota, regulations issued by state agencies have the same effect as laws enacted by the Legislature, so it's important to be aware of the regulations which pertain to your business.
When South Dakota state agencies consider adopting new regulations - called "rules" - or consider making changes to existing regulations, they conduct hearings which are open to the public. The public is notified of the hearings through the Register, which is published by the South Dakota Legislative Research Council. Select a date and scroll down to 'Reminder of hearings scheduled' for a complete list of upcoming state agency hearings.
If you would like to receive email notifications about upcoming rules hearings, sign up for the Register by going online to the Legislative Research Council's website. From there:
1. Click on Create New MyLRC Account
2. Create a User ID and password, and provide your email address
3. Click on Rules (left side of the page)
4. Check “notify me when the Register is posted” and click “Update”
