March SNAP Benefits to be Issued March 10

March SNAP Benefits to be Issued March 10

South Dakota Retailers Association

March Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be issued on the regularly scheduled date of March 10th, according to the South Dakota Department of Social Services.

The agency says:

Federal regulations stipulate there can be no more than 40 days between issuances of SNAP benefits from one month to the next, for eligible households.  However, in January 2019, in order to avoid possible funding impacts of the federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) required states to  issue February SNAP benefits early. States were required to issue February SNAP benefits by January 20th.  Given the unique circumstance of the February Early issuance, FNS waived the requirement indicating the 40-day limit does not apply in this instance.

SNAP recipients were made aware of the early issuance of February benefits and were informed there would not be another SNAP benefit until March for those who continue to be eligible.  SNAP recipients were also encouraged to plan purchases carefully to help meet their food needs in February.
