Reminder: January 1, 2019 South Dakota Minimum Wage Goes to $9.10 Per Hour

South Dakota minimum wage goes up January 1stAs announced on September 26, effective January 1, 2019 the state minimum wage in South Dakota will increase from $8.85 per hour to $9.10 per hour.

South Dakota's minimum wage is adjusted annually, with the increase calculated according to any increase in the cost of living as measured in the Consumer Price Index published by the U.S. Department of Labor.

This year’s increase was 2.7 percent. By state law, the increase in the minimum wage is rounded up to the nearest five cents.

The hourly minimum wage for tipped employees will be $4.55 per hour effective January 1, 2019, which is half the minimum wage for non-tipped employees. Wages and tips combined must equal at least the minimum wage.
