What is ProStart®?
ProStart® is a nationwide, two-year program for high school students that develops the best and brightest talent into tomorrow’s restaurant and foodservice industry leaders.
From culinary techniques to management skills, ProStart’s industry-driven curriculum provides real-world education and builds practical expertise for a foundation that will last a lifetime.
Uniting the industry and classroom.
Students not only learn from educators in the classroom, they also gain valuable hands-on experience by working at least 400 hours in the industry. ProStart creates an unparalleled experience.
Life-changing opportunities and career direction.
Participants gain access to scholarships and can receive college credit and advanced placement.
Developing tomorrow’s industry workforce.
Work-study positions provide practical skills, open doors and build connections with professionals in the real-world.

ProStart in South Dakota
Nationally, ProStart® is administered by the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation (NRAEF). In South Dakota, the program is coordinated by the South Dakota Retailers Association (SDRA), in cooperation with the South Dakota Department of Education and the South Dakota ProStart Committee.
South Dakota's ProStart® has been in place since 2007, when the South Dakota Retailers Association agreed to establish and coordinate the program.
