Rules Hearings

In South Dakota, regulations issued by state agencies have the same effect as laws enacted by the Legislature, so it's important to be aware of the regulations which pertain to your business.

When South Dakota state agencies consider adopting new regulations - called "rules" - or consider making changes to existing regulations, they conduct hearings which are open to the public. The public is notified of the hearings through the Register, which is published by the South Dakota Legislative Research Council. For information regarding upcoming rules hearings, select the most recent date.

Once you have selected a date, be sure to scroll down to "Reminder of hearings scheduled" for a complete list of upcoming state agency hearings. You may need to check previous issues of the Register for more details about some of the meetings shown on the list.

If you would like to receive email notifications about upcoming rules hearings, sign up for the Register by going online to the Legislative Research Council's website at http://legis.state.sd.us/mylrc/index.aspx. From there:
